A message from our Chairman, Rich

Well what a success 2022 was with over £3,100 taken on the street collection. I have never seen the town so busy and buzzing with energy, every spare space in the town was full. I would like to thank each and every one of you for the support. We are looking forward to making the daytime events even more spectacular this year.

Carnival is something that brings the community together as one, this event becomes ever more important in collaboration with local businesses and integration of the communities in which we live, please support, us either with donating money or entering into the carnival. I would like to thank the team for all the hard work over the last year, here’s to a successful and busy 2023 carnival.

See you on the streets on the 30th September for our 147th Carnival.

Hope Projects

We are an independent charity working for the benefit of those vulnerable and at risk within our community. Our aim is to provide a safe haven for those who need it, with an opportunity to learn new skills, the chance to work and become part of a team, and even to progress into paid employment if this is what the individual wishes.

Boobs Breast Cancer Awareness

Our primary aim is raising awareness and educating ladies and men how to check their breasts.

Our ethos is that if symptoms can be caught early enough it could save a life.

We can financially help people within our local area who have had a diagnosis with the costs associated with having treatment. This can include but is not limited to: mastectomy bras, wigs, travel expenses, therapies and beauty treatments. We can also contribute towards creating everlasting memories.

History

Carnival royalty goes back over 150 years and along the way we have seen hundreds of individuals crowned Queen and Princess of Shaftesbury Carnival. In 1942 a Queen was chosen but never got to parade due to the war and this saw a break in the carnival until the end of the war. More recently our current royals have been in power since 2019 due to covid 19 pandemic.

In 2019 we introduced a Royal Prince and a junior Princess role. The role of the royal family is asset the carnival committee at events as the face of the carnival. They attend all the carnival events wearing the Royal Sashes, the events include, Bingo, Quiz night, band concert and carnival day to name but a few. The royals are in regin for one year and represent us during this time. 2023 sees the change from carnival granny to carnival grandparent to be inclusive of all the Grandads who want to get involved!
